Major Strategic Moves
-General McClellan first saw the southern troops, but did not choose to attack right away because he over-estimated the size of the Confederate army. Unfortunately, this gave the south an advantage because it gave them time to regroup and organize their troops.
-McClellan was also able to obtain a set of Confederate plans for the battle and gained the advantage by knowing their plan and was able to counter act it.
-Even though the Union suffered more casualties than the Confederates, the victory goes to the Union because they attacked from different angles and gained the advantage late on the 17th. By doing this, they were able to weaken the Confederate's center line.
